Five Minutes Can Reset Your Entire Day

Whether you’re a busy parent, an over-worked professional, a student, or a retiree – I know all of you can relate to my morning today. Let’s learn how five minutes can reset your entire day.

The alarm went off at 6:15, I snoozed it, ended up waking up at 6:45 – too late to take a shower because I still have to make kids lunches and take them to school. First meeting is at 8:30, so I have to get the kids ready and drop each kid off by foot at their schools. Then I run back and jump on a video call looking like I just rolled out of bed. No time for a quick cup of coffee, for a quick meditation, for a quick bite to eat. It’s run, run, run.

Sigh…. I’m getting exhausted just remembering the frantic pace of today.

On my way home after dropping off my second kid at school I could feel the frustration rising up within me. This emotion of complete depletion knowing that no matter what I do I just can’t seem to find a moment to myself to be still or to do anything to love me. I feel resentment building towards my kids, my work, my perfectionism to keep the house neat. Most of all…. not having the time to even take a shower when I can have ten minutes to myself under the warm water early in the morning without any interruptions. ME TIME!

ME Time Is SO IMPORTANT

On that run home, I knew I was missing ME. So, I did the unthinkable! I messaged my boss and told him that I can’t be on the call at 8:30, but I’ll jump on at 9 AM.

Before my transformation, there would have been simply NO WAY I would have ever had the confidence or the guts to tell my boss I couldn’t make a meeting. I’d conjure up thoughts of him hating me if I did that, or even getting fired. Normally, I would just show up to the meeting with a fake smile. I would pretend to be happy and nice and jovial the entire time, meanwhile stewing in my frustration and self-pity – most likely not even realizing why I was feeling that way.

Awareness Makes All the Difference

Now I had bought myself the extra 30 minutes, because of my confidence to speak up and ask for time when I needed it. I could finally breathe and go within for a few moments.

So, as I walked home, I turned on the “Flowing Stream Healing Audio Session”. It is one of my favourite audio files to promote self-love. I relaxed and went for a 5-minute walk in the crisp fresh air.

Afterwards, I came home and did a silent meditation for 5 minutes and just sat still and focused on my breath. Then, I made a cup of coffee, journaled for a few minutes, had a quick bite to eat and logged in to work 5 minutes early.

Having the self-awareness to know that I was out of centre, and that I needed to do something little to show myself love, to care for ME, made all the difference for me.

Know Your Worth…

Knowing my worth because I now respect and love myself has given me much more self-confidence. it has allowed me to believe that the value I bring to my job, to my company, and to my team is far greater than any loss from me asking to start a meeting 30 minutes later. And i did this without fearing getting fired or being disliked by my boss.

When 9 a.m. came, I jumped on the call, genuinely happy and wanting to connect with my boss about all the great work we’re doing. My smile was real, my enthusiasm about the progress we’re making was genuine, and my desire to be at work was sincere. In fact, my boss said to me “Vicki, you’re so chipper this morning.” And he was right. I was truly chipper. I was refreshed, my bucket was full, I filled me with my own self-care and self-love, and it completely changed the course of my day.

In the busy lives that we live these days it is so easy to feel that we give all our time to someone or something other than ourselves. It can make such an enormous difference to just give ourselves that little bit of self-love or self-care daily.

The further you travel on the Self-Love Journey, the more confidence you have to be the real you! The truth is it only takes a few minutes every day to show yourself how much you love you! The work will always be there. The house can always be cleaner. Your kids and chores aren’t going anywhere. So please, remember to love yourself first, and only then you will have so much more of the beautiful and wonderful you to give back to the world!

Have a lovely day!

Love,

Vicki
